The People Who Keep Me Sane
Sure, I love my children and husband. But there are some days when I feel like if I don’t talk to another adult I will completely lose my mind!! And those are the days my friends completely save my life.
For example, there’s one checkout clerk at my corner grocery store who I like to call my gay boyfriend—we totally just “get” each other. We do this bit where every time I check out I say “Hello Mark, how’s my gay boyfriend doing today?” And he says, “My name’s not Mark and I’m not gay.” Sometimes he’ll throw in a quip about my card being declined. It makes me laugh so hard I forget where I am!
I of course have hoards of other mom friends, but it’s so hard to find time to meet up IRL. And while social media helps us stay connected in some ways, you’ve probably seen in the news that these sites have been plagued with glitches lately. I swear most of the time when I try to peek at a close friend’s page I’m told the page is unavailable or I don’t have permission to view it!
